Sue Taylor
BSc (Hons), MSc, PhD
In 1997 she started her PhD which analysed anaerobic performance in age group swimmers, and involved a longitudinal study of tethered swimming performance in swimmers aged 10-16 years.
In November 2002 she took up a two-year post-doctoral position at Liverpool John Moores University with the SportsLinx Project, which focused on childhood obesity and fitness.
During this time Sue taught on various degree programmes: BSc (Hons) Sport Science, MSc Sport Science and BA Physical Education with QTS. She took up her appointment as an Exercise Physiologist at NEWI (as Glyndŵr University was then known) in October 2004.
Since starting she has been a Programme Leader for various Sport Science degrees, with the most recent validation taking place for BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Sciences and the MRes Sport and Exercise Sciences degree being validated in the summer of 2010.
Teaching responsibilities
- Programme Leader for BSc (Hons) and MRes Sport & Exercise Sciences
- Personal tutor
- Module leader for Physical Activity and Health (Level 5), Sport and Exercise Physiology in an Applied Setting (Level 6) and Research Dissertation (Level 7)
- Contributes to Physiological Foundations (Level 4), Assessment of Sport and Exercise Physiology (Level 5), Independent Study (Level 6), Physical Activity, Health and Disease (Level 6) and Negotiated Learning (Level 7)
- Dissertation supervisor undergraduate and postgraduate (MRes and PhD)

Research interests
Sue’s principal areas of research are now obesity, play and the fitness of school-aged children but she still has a keen interest in applied physiology.
Consultancy experience
Her applied experience is working with British Swimming, GB Canoe Polo and with athletes from a range of sports, including:
- Triathlon
- Tennis
- Squash
- Cycling
Her consultancy with local authorities includes:
- An intervention to increase physical activity in the workplace using pedometers
- An evaluation of the GP referral system in the local area
- A pilot study to investigate the health and fitness of school children in Wrexha
- A mixed-longitudinal study of the health and fitness of school children in Denbighshire (The F Factor Project)
