Sport & Exercise Sciences courses

Welcome to our course pages. We have four undergraduate degree courses on offer, all available for study on either a full-time or part-time basis. You can start in one mode and switch to another if this suits you best.

At postgraduate level, we offer an MRes Sport and Exercise Sciences.

BSc (Hons) Sport & Exercise Sciences BSc (Hons) Sport & Exercise Sciences

This degree not only includes the core modules of physiology, psychology and performance analysis but will also have options to you that include clinical practice, sport science support and personal training.

You will learn by doing, working with a whole range of local and national sports teams and various community groups.

Throughout the programme you will develop your research skills so that you can undertake a research dissertation in the final year.

BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching

This ‘hot-off-the-press’ programme has been designed to increase the level and quality of sports coaches from community up to elite levels.

You will develop links to the coaching industry at all levels - from community to elite coaches and coach educators.

The content of the degree programme will draw on key coaching principles, including an examination of coaching practice and coaching process, sports science principles relating psychology and physiology to coaching and performance, sociological aspects of sport, and sports coaching and performance analysis at both a technical and tactical level.

FdSc Equestrian Psychology / BSc (Hons) Equestrian Psychology FdSc/BSc (Hons) Equestrian Psychology

Another new addition to our programmes, these courses have been designed specifically to look at the interface between ‘horse’ and ‘rider’.

You will investigate not only the latest in equine learning, training and welfare but will consider how sport psychology can be used to advance performance – from the recreational rider through to those competing at an elite level.

You will spend time in the workplace, go on site visits and be exposed to industry practioners as you advance your own knowledge, skills and abilities in equestrian psychology.

The foundation degree is available either as a full-time two year programme or over a longer duration if studying part-time. The honours degree is a top-up course.

MRes Sport and Exercise Sciences MRes Sport and Exercise Sciences

Designed purposely bespoke for continuing professional development in the field of sport and exercise science, the MRes Sport and Exercise Sciences degree is ideal if you're looking to make it to the top of the field.

The course is flexible, involving taught and research modules which can be tailored to help you pursue an area of your interest.

You will have the opportunity to complete a negotiated learning module which allows you to tailor your degree to your specific career aim or topic of interest. For example you could undertake an applied placement in preparation for BASES Supervised Experience; develop a range of marketing materials to publicise health/fitness events; or complete a work-based case study.
