The philosophy of the Children and Young People’s University Cymru

The Children and Young People’s University Cymru has adopted a philosophy that encourages young people to gain benefit from their participation. Fundamentally, the purpose of the Children and Young People’s University Cymru is to promote activities that develop 'the whole child' and to award credits for participation in learning rather than the traditional educational models of rewarding achievement against predetermined standards. We believe that the Children and Young People’s University Cymru will encourage and create an excitement about learning.

Encapsulated in the philosophy are the beliefs that:

  • All pupils want to learn.
  • All parents want their children to succeed.
  • Learning is a lifelong process.
  • There are many ways of learning.
  • Learning carries on outside of school hours.

We try to make learning relevant

Working closely with parents, educational and non-educational establishments, the Children and Young People’s University Cymru aims to extend students' learning outside normal teaching hours. It provides a broad framework within which each student can reach their learning potential in their chosen and desired area of learning.

Multiple intelligence

Modules can be organised to cover a broad range of learning experiences. A wide variety of teaching styles offering a full range of activities means that there will always be something for everyone, suiting all learning styles. This will serve to increase the self esteem of our young students and their belief in themselves as effective learners.
