Leslie joined Glyndŵr University as Principal Lecturer and Director of the Glyndŵr MBA Programme in 2008. Before that he was at the University of Bedfordshire as Head of Postgraduate Programmes, sometime Head of Doctoral Programmes, Director of the Chartered Management Institute Executive Diploma Programme and acting Head of the Strategy, Entrepreneurship and HRM Department.

He has taught in South Africa, Delhi, Oman, Thailand and Hong Kong and undertaken research projects in Scandinavia, Australia and the Ukraine.

Previous university appointments have been at Bradford Management Centre, his alma mater, where as a student he obtained the postgraduate prize for Corporate Strategy and where he also obtained his doctorate in International Business. Whilst at Bradford he and several other doctoral students established the Bradford Doctoral Society for academic and social gatherings and mutual support.

After Bradford he took a position at Durham University Business School where in addition to research and teaching he undertook consultancy assignments and was also instrumental in establishing and co-ordinating across 14 countries the European Doctoral Programme in Small Business, part of the European initiative contained within Erasmus.

Leslie also has significant international experience and as Dosent Professor at a Graduate Management School in Norway he was instrumental in establishing the Norwegian Small Business Research Centre. In this capacity he attracted a major research grant equivalent to £250,000 for research into the internationalisation of Norwegian SMEs. Based upon this work he collaborated with Professor Mark Weaver who was then at the University of Alabama, USA. Their joint papers resulted in the Coleman Foundation best paper award at the most prestigious small business conference in the USA, the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, in Atlanta, Georgia. He and Professor Weaver also won the second best paper award at the ICSB World conference in Stockholm.

The International Council for Small Business (ICSB), based at the time in the USA, is the oldest and largest membership organisation in the world for the advancement of the SME. It was thus a great privilege for Leslie to be appointed Senior Vice President of this organisation. During ICSB conference periods he also presented staff and student seminars at Australian and New Zealand universities.

Leslie’s research and teaching interests are in the areas of corporate strategy, small business and international business, especially the international aspects of strategy and small business. Lesser but still interesting areas are in the areas of economics and finance, particularly small business finance.
