This degree is aimed at people who wish to pursue a career in the public, voluntary or independent sectors concerned with delivering radio programming. The development of media technology within the audio engineering industry has been greatly influenced by the growth of public interest in radio technologies and much interaction with other aspects of audio is possible. Radio Production and Communication is a professionally driven course with plenty of practical work within Glyndŵr University’s professional FM community radio station and recording studio facilities.

Topics covered include radio production, developing the media product, broadcasting and presentation, digital media, integrated media communications, Internet media audio systems, location recording and collaborative projects which will provide you with a full flavour of the industry and this exciting vocation. You will develop your skills of communication, presentation, teamwork and management.

Special features

  • You will have access to the well equipped multimedia suite at Glyndŵr University.
  • There is a large recording studio on campus which operates 24 hours a day.
  • Calon FM 105 a community radio station was developed by Communications Technolgy staff and is based in their laboratory building so you will have access to a professional radio station which helps support student career development. This is the only university based community radio station in Wales.

BSc (Hons) Radio Production and Communication

Course content

You will cover all aspects of radio production and in the early stages of the course will focus on areas such as communication, broadcasting and presentation. You will then look in more depth at media products and their development, you will cover digital media and integrated media communications. In the later stages of the course you will further develop your professional skills, will gain skills in on-location recording and will learn about Internet based media audio systems. You will also undertake a dissertation allowing you to develop in depth knowledge of a specialist area of your choice.

Assessment methods for this course include a produced radio show, essays, critical analyses, projects, portfolios, logbooks, reports and presentations.
