Performance Car Technologies

BEng (Hons) Performance Car Technology

One key focus of our automotive engineering courses, is high performance cars: their design, the way they’re engineered and the electronics that make them function so smoothly.

Key facts

  • Outstanding industry links. Jaguar, Toyota, System ST and Anglesey Racing Circuit are just some of the companies we work closely with
  • Access to facilities including ProEngineer solid body modelling and FEA suite, Abaqus FEA suite, AutoCAD, Fluent CFD software, electronics labs and engine test cell and wind tunnel facilities
  • Gain an in-depth knowledge of industry-standard software packages, including MATLAB & Simulink, Texas Instruments Code Composer Studio, Analog Devices VisualDSP, Altium Designer, Xilinx ISE, Altera MAX+PLUS II, Microchip MPLAB and Vector CANanalyser
  • The opportunity to develop models by using Rapid prototyping software and equipment in our project workshop
  • Use a Westfield Megabird as a project development car, a road-going track day race car and one of the fastest accelerating road cars in the world. Other performance vehicles which the team runs includes the Van Dieman RF79 and award-winning solar vehicle and a gravity racer
  • Undertake practical electronics work on a Jaguar X-type car in our specialist motor vehicle workshop

Career opportunities

The exciting range of career options open to you when you graduate includes working with car manufacturers and their supply network, in automotive research and development, in consultancy, engineering management, automotive design and in motorsport industry.

There’s a national shortage of fully-qualified electronic engineers in the automotive industry; with a degree in automotive electronics technology you’ll stand out from the crowd when it comes to finding employment.

Opportunities include:
  • race car dynamics
  • motorsport electronics
  • chassis engineering
  • performance car structures
  • vehicle networks
  • entertainment and multimedia systems
  • electronic technologies
  • performance engines and microprocessor systems

Accreditation

Degrees accredited by the Engineering Council through one of the UK professional engineering institutions offer you a fast-track route towards Chartered Engineer status, a world renowned qualification. To become a Chartered Engineer you will need to graduate from an accredited BEng Programme with further learning.

All of our undergraduate programmes meet the educational standards required for the Chartered Engineer professional qualification. Increasingly, industry is looking for graduates who have the academic qualifications leading to professional recognition. This means that you or prospective employers can be assured that your University of Wales degree from Glyndŵr University has been successfully benchmarked against the Chartered Engineer standard.
