Music Technology

BSc (Hons) Music Technology

This course is designed to teach and develop skills within the music production environment. It covers a range of technologies and will include development of your own portfolio of production pieces and access to many of the local music venues.

This course is built around the practical use of the university’s state-of-the-art audio studios and makes full use of the facilities in the Centre for the Creative Industries.

Key facts

  • FM community radio station on site that can be used for collaboration work. The University is one of only two higher education institutions to have such a facility on campus
  • State-of-the-art new Centre for the Creative Industries supports work across creative disciplines using the latest in recording and production technology
  • A 24-hour access recording studio is on campus, and can be used in collaboration work for music projects. In addition to work in the audio studios and post-production suites, you will have the opportunity to work with other students in our radio station and TV studio on many collaborative projects

Course Content

BSc(Hons) Music Technology

On this course you will develop a range of practical music production skills such as compositional technology, music production, on-location sound recording and developing music videos. In the later stages of the course you will study audio post-production and sound design, learn about the application of surround sound and develop audio mastering and post-production skills. You will also complete a professional production of your own.

Assessment

There is a range of assessment methods used for this course including creating music productions, essays, work based learning, portfolios, reports, and presentations. All assessments will be course based, and therefore there are no exams on the course.

The academic requirements for the degree are for at least 240 points at A level or equivalent. See information on general entry requirements.

From 2012 our general academic requirement for an honours degree will be 240 UCAS points, and for a foundation degree 120 UCAS points. If you do not have the points required your application will still be considered. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and with a range of experiences.
