Course content
BA (Hons) History
You’ll have the opportunity to study themes from medieval and renaissance times right through to the modern day in a Welsh, British, European and international context.
The first year of the degree provides you with the skills and knowledge required for historical study through consideration of a range of themes such as crime and punishment, popular culture and the mass media, national identity and turning points in the past.
In the second year we build upon skills and knowledge gained in year one and progress to a consideration of themes such as Elizabethan court and culture, homes and lives of the aristocracy, food, fashion, entertainment and history in the workplace.
The final year modules provide opportunities for greater specialism in line with your specific interests. Themes include: ‘A World Turned Upside Down’: 17th Century England and Wales, Birth of a New Society in 19th Century Britain, America: Colonists to Cowboys. You will also work on a dissertation at this stage giving you an opportunity to complete a research project on a topic of personal interest to you.

Divide your studies between these two complimentary subjects - a classic degree combination. Your focus on English literature will include British, American and European writing and exploration of the themes of identity, tradition, gender and nation throughout English literary history.
