Computer Game Development

This is one of the fastest growing industries within digital technology. If you have an interest in computer games and can see yourself designing the games of the future, studying Computer Game Development at Glyndŵr University is an ideal choice for you.

You will learn how to develop game narratives and strong gaming characters, animate characters, use audio technologies to bring your games to life and how to devise multi-player games. You will also learn how to apply your skills to producing a range of digital products outside of the gaming industry.

Studying this pathway of Computing, you will develop a number of practical skills which are useful in any field of business, such as how to use information technology effectively as well as developing your knowledge of specialised software relevant to Computer Game Development. You will also learn how to research, analyse and present your ideas. Gaming and entertainment development, is a fast growing sector and employment prospects are strong in traditional and new high technology companies in the public and private sectors. Additionally, many mainstream computing areas such as IT support and IT consultancy and Internet applications and e-commerce applications provide career paths for graduates of this course.

Graduates can expect to work as independent consultants or in teams with other computer, multimedia and creative industries professionals to build and support development of modern games and similar digital media products.

BSc (Hons) Computer Game Development

Course content

In the early stages of the course you will learn about the principles of digital media. This will give you a grounding to go on and explore design ideas and concepts. You will study digital audio, interactive game platforms and software methods and programming. You will progress to 3D modelling and animation and will develop game narratives to anable you to think
about the importance of characterisation in computer games. In the later stages of the course you will look at multi-player game design and development, AI systems and mobile game development. You will also undertake a team based project.

Assessment

Assessment is through individual and team coursework together with the demonstration of competence in the delivery of practical work and projects.

Entry requirements

The general requirement for the honours degree is 200 UCAS points at A level or equivalent. In addition applicants must have five GCSE passes at grades A, B or C including Mathematics and English. See information on BSc (Hons) Computer Game Development modules.
