Why choose Chinese Medicine?

This degree is accredited by the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine and has been to respond to the growing demand for a high quality academic qualification in the field of complementary medicine. Chinese Medicine is a system of healing based upon the Chinese understanding of the correspondence between nature (Tao) and human beings. This course introduces the theories of Chinese Medicine including the principles of Yin and Yang, macrocosm and microcosm, Qi, diagnostics and their application to practice. This philosophy is based upon holism with the prime objective of treatment to enable the client to regain new balance and return to a state of well being.

The course prepares you as a professional in the methods of Chinese Medicine including Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Patent Medicine. As well as developing an understanding of Chinese philosophy, you will also acquire knowledge of health sciences, research and therapeutic skills as well as developing your skills in communication, presentation, reflection, information gathering, problem-solving and evaluation. At the end of the degree you will be able to pursue a challenging and fulfilling career as a professional practitioner in Acupuncture and areas allied to Chinese Medicine.

BSc (Hons) Chinese Medicine

Course content

Through this course you will learn the diagnostic skills needed to practice Chinese Medicine, as well as learning about nutrition and the human body so that you are able to diagnose with confidence and know when issues need to be referred to other specialists within the health sector. As well as learning how to perform acupuncture you will also learn about Chinese herbal medicine. Emphasis is placed on you gaining practical experience in our clinic as well as learning key business skills to enable you to set up your own business should you wish to follow this career path.

Assessment

There are a range of assessment methods used including written assignments, professional portfolios, written and practical examinations. A dissertation forms the final part of the assessment.

Entry requirements

The academic requirements for this course are 200 UCAS points in relevant A level subjects or equivalent. Applications are welcome from anyone who exhibits the ability and experience to manage the demands of the course. Before you are offered an unconditional place on this degree you will be required to complete a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) form and pay the appropriate fee, so that a check can be made on your suitability for working with children and vulnerable adults.
