BSc (Hons) Studio Recording and Performance Technology

This course is designed to develop skills relevant to and required by the sound and associated media technologies industries. The course prepares you to become a professional sound engineer, or to be employed in one of the many aspects of the modern audio-media industries.

During your studies you will have 24/7 access to The Wall recording studio.

Key facts

  • The University has a recording studio facility (and MIDI suite), accessible to students 24-hours a day. The main studio area has a floor space of 1000 square feet. There is also an audio post-production suite running industry standard software such as ProTools, Native Instruments Komplete and Logic Pro
  • Students can use the community radio station, Calon FM, which is housed in the studio building. The station was set up by staff in this area. Glyndŵr University is one of only two higher education institutions in the UK to have such

Course Content

BSc (Hons) Studio Recording and Performance Technology

You will study audio science, investigate and build audio devices, learn about electronic computer aided design and electro-acoustic systems and gain practical skills in recording and live sound production. You will also cover theatre sound and radio production, computer music programming and studio planning. You will learn about the impact of new technology and hone your recording techniques. In the final stages of the course you will cover audio post-production, live system design and on-location recording.

Entry requirements and applying

The academic requirements for the honours degree are for at least 240 points at A level or equivalent, preferably with Music Technology as a subject. You will need to demonstrate that you have the interest and capability for developing audio projects, radio broadcasts and writing-based work. This will be assessed through an interview process or presentation of a portfolio of relevant experience.

General entry requirements

From 2012 our general academic requirement for an honours degree will be 240 UCAS points, and for a foundation degree 120 UCAS points. If you do not have the points required your application will still be considered. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and with a range of experiences.
