Engineering Research Centre
This multidisciplinary Research Centre is composed of three research groups: Structural Analysis Research Group; Dynamics, Aerodynamics and Control Research Group; and Signal Processing and Power Systems Research Group. The research groups collaborate extensively through joint postgraduate supervisions, research publications and research grant submissions.
The scope of the Structural Analysis Research Group encompasses four main areas: structural connections, fatigue and fracture, engineering design, and brittle materials. Work has also been undertaken on a bio-medical project which looks at these areas. The focus for most work is on computational analysis using finite element and boundary element techniques.
The research of the Dynamics, Aerodynamics and Control Research Group specialises in four areas: thermofluid mechanics, aerodynamics, computational fluids dynamics (CFD) and flight dynamics and control. The group is engaged in research collaboration with a number of universities in Europe (mainly France and Spain) as well as in the UK. The group focuses mainly on computational analysis and design tools using CFD as well as flight control systems analytical tools.
The work of the Signal Processing and Power Systems Research Group focuses on the areas of signal processing and DSP, advanced control engineering, power electronics and power systems The group is engaged in research collaboration in areas such as advanced control, power electronics and renewable energy power systems.
