What can I study?
We offer undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses in a wide spectrum of subjects from engineering, computing and business through to art and design, humanities and health. You can study most subjects at a number of different levels, ranging from higher national diplomas and foundation degrees through to honours degrees and postgraduate degrees. All of our degrees are validated by the University of Wales, and some also lead to professional accreditation.
We recognise that there are a lot of fascinating careers out there, so we try to provide courses that are industry relevant to help our students enter their chosen career. The Glyndŵr University website gives comprehensive information on all our courses, or alternatively contact our Student Information Desk (SID) if you want to speak to someone.
How long will it take?
This depends on the course you choose. Foundation degrees generally take two years full time or three years part time, honours degrees generally take three years full time or five years part time, and postgraduate courses range from one year full time to five years part time. We can talk to you about your needs and how you want the course to fit into your life, and try to come up with an arrangement that suits you.
What sort of entry qualifications will I need?
This depends on the course you choose. For mature students we may take experience into consideration instead of formal qualifications, depending on the extent and depth of your knowledge and previous experience. But you will need to demonstrate that you are committed to your chosen subject and could complete the course successfully. For certain postgraduate awards there are specific entry requirements; just contact us and ask for guidance.
We treat all our students as individuals, and your personal circumstances will determine what you need to do to enrol on your chosen course. We would recommend that you get in touch with us if you are thinking of applying for a course, so that we can find the best way of helping you achieve your aims. The Student Information Desk will put you in touch with the right person.
Will I get a job at the end of it?
We can’t guarantee you’ll get a job, but we certainly aim to improve your chances if you’re not already in employment. Our courses are designed to give you the technical and academic skills employers are looking for, and we can also introduce you to some of the local employers who might be looking to recruit Glyndŵr University students when they graduate. If you want to get a foot in the door, then this is a really good place to be.
Our graduates have an excellent employability record. In other words, a huge number of them go on to get a job or take on further study after completing their programmes. The latest results of the Destination of Higher Education Leavers Survey 2006 show 92% overall employability for our students six months after graduation. So by coming here you’re giving yourself a very good chance of doing the same.
How can higher education help me develop in my chosen career?
We offer a whole host of professional courses, for people who wish to develop skills relevant to their current employment. Our links with business and industry are excellent and offer our students the chance to learn in a context appropriate to their career. For example, some of our honours degrees enable students to apply for membership of professional societies or membership schemes. These links also mean that our courses reflect the latest developments and practices in the workplace, so you can be sure your study is up-to-date and topical.
If your employer is looking for training that’s specific to your working environment, we can produce courses tailored to your needs. We also offer research and consultancy services so you can draw on the expertise of our staff to help you develop your business. Just get in touch if you would like to find out more; the Student Information Desk can put you in touch with the relevant people within the University.
“My course is providing me with education that has a practical day-to-day benefit, as well as helping me to have a good career when I finish.”
