University fresher wins laptop to help with studies
2 September 2009
A freshers student has been given a timely boost ahead of the start of university after winning a laptop to help with her studies.
Students registering an interest in studying at Glyndŵr University from September 2009 were entered into a draw to win a laptop, and Natalee Garbutt’s name was first to be picked at random, from hundreds of entries received at higher education fairs across the UK.
Natalee, from Wrexham, will be studying for a BSc (Hons) in Forensic Science and Criminal Justice.
She will be studying at the same time as her mum, Melanie Garbutt, who is enrolled on a nursing degree at the University.
Natalee said: “I’ve always had a big interest in forensic science. When I left school I wanted to join the police but forensics became a bigger interest for me over time. I’m hoping to work as a scene of crime officer once I’ve got my degree.
“I couldn’t believe it when I got the call to tell me I’d won – I’ve never won anything before. The laptop will be a big help with all the work that lies ahead, but I think I’ll be battling with my mum for use of it!”
Glyndŵr University offers more than 250 undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses, with places still available for September 2009 entry. For more details call 01978 293439.
