Deputy First Minister opens new University facility

Teaching of the Welsh language at Glyndŵr University is to benefit from world leading digital facilities which have been unveiled by the Deputy First Minister of Wales.

Ieuan Wyn Jones officially opened the new William Morgan Room at the university’s Wrexham campus on Thursday 29 January.

The room is equipped with the UK’s first installation of the beyerdynamic Revoluto, a high tech microphone system.

It will be used for official university meetings, as well as by students studying on Glyndŵr University’s new foundation degree in Welsh translation.

The room is named after former Bishop of Wales, William Morgan, the first person to translate all of the Bible into Welsh.

Deputy First Minister, Ieuan Wyn Jones, said: “The use of Welsh is increasing and a lot of businesses now recognise the value of the Welsh language. The William Morgan Room will be a very important facility for the local community as well as the university. The institution has always been very committed to providing facilities for the community and should be congratulated for that.”

Professor Michael Scott, Vice-Chancellor of Glyndŵr University, said: “We were delighted to welcome the Deputy First Minister to the University to unveil what is a tremendous facility.

“We are so proud to be a university of Wales and a university for Wales. The Welsh language is something we are tremendously proud of, so we decided that our new Welsh translation course should be taught in this room.”
