Overcoming the ‘Tries and Tackles’ to success

On Thursday 4 December international rugby legend Rupert Moon will be visiting Glyndŵr University to give a free motivational lecture about his career.

Rupert Moon has had an extensive career as a rugby player all the way from playing as a student for England Rugby Union through to qualifying for Wales by playing his club rugby for Abertillery RFC, Neath RFC and Llanelli RFC. In total he earned 24 caps for Wales in the national rugby team.

After retiring from international rugby in 2001 he played for Llanelli Scarlets until 2002. He then became a radio and television presenter on BBC Wales before taking his sport experience into the business world to become Head of Group Commercial and Business Development for the Welsh Rugby Union and the Millennium Stadium. His contribution there helped see the group achieve record breaking turnover and profits.

After the Tsunami disaster in December 2004 he and the Millennium Stadium management organised the Tsunami Relief Concert in just three weeks. In total the concert raised £1.25m to help victims of the disaster. He was also an integral part in the organisation of the Climate Change concert in 2005 also hosted in the Millennium Stadium.

Despite his current role as Marketing Director for ‘Protectagroup’, Wales’ largest insurance broker, Rupert can still be seen on the BBC providing commentary on live games. He has also taken part in a number of shows on BBC Wales including ‘Welsh in a Week’ where Birmingham born Rupert learnt Welsh for his wedding to his Welsh speaking fiancé.

Along the way Rupert has had to overcome a number of adversities including crippling injury. In this his talk on Thursday 4th December  he will discuss his career history and experiences and explain how he kept his motivation to succeed when times got tough.

Doors open at 6:30pm and Rupert will take the stage in the Nick Whitehead Theatre, at the Plas Coch site on Mold Road, Wrexham at 7pm. There is no entrance fee and the event is open to all ages.
