National Trust sculpture project

Staff and students from Queen’s Park High School, Chester, The Maelor School, Wrexham and The North Wales School of Art & Design, NEWI have been working together on a six month visual arts project at Erddig Hall, Wrexham. The sculpture project, sponsored by Redrow Homes, involves undergraduate students from the BA (Hons) Fine Art and BA (Hons) Applied Arts programmes at the North Wales School of Art and Design working alongside the artist Nigel Talbot and students from Queen’s Park High School and Maelor School to gain professional practice and experience. Last night saw the launch of the exhibition of this National Trust Sculpture Project at Queen’s Park High School, Chester.

The workshops have involved students working with diverse media and materials and in a variety of locations using the interior and exterior ‘floors’ at Erddig Hall, Wrexham as inspiration for visual artworks.

Patsy Aicken, Sales Director for Redrow Homes (North West) visited the Art School workshop at Regent Street in December, to see first hand the work the students were producing and to meet Nigel, David Lloyd Arts College Director from Queens Park High School and Lynn Jones from Maelor School.

The first three workshops took place at Erddig Hall, Wrexham and the North Wales School of Art and Design. The next three workshops were held in the schools. The workshops have been very successful and generated a lot of good work and high levels of enthusiasm. Simon Parker, Subject Leader for Art and Design at Queens Park High School said, “All students have been working well together and new friendships have been formed.”
