Internet conference is an international success
4 September 2007
Today (Tuesday 4th September) sees the opening of the second biennial international conference on Internet Technologies and Applications held at NEWI.
The four day conference has attracted delegates from all over the world and brings together researchers and developers from universities and industry across all fields of Internet computing and engineering.
The keynote speakers this year include Professor Don Gotterbarn, Professor of Software Engineering Ethics at the East Tennessee State University, Professor Simon Shepherd, Professor of Computational Mathematics, University of Bradford and Dr. Kevin Doughty, Deputy Director of the Centre for Usable Home Technology, part of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation at the University of York.
The conference has two main themes: technologies and techniques and applications and concepts which run parallel throughout the conference and allow delegates to choose the most appropriate presentations, forums and workshops to suit their needs. Some of the key topics discussed include ethical Internet development, Internet technology and its applications, Internet security and e-business. There will also be poster presentation sessions where the delegates can examine the latest research findings in these areas.
Professor Michael Scott, Principal of NEWI welcomed the delegates to the conference this morning “Research and scholarship is an important part of NEWI’s work, not only in the development of its courses but also in developing the work of companies in the region. Changes in Internet technology are just one of the areas which will help to drive the local economy in the future and I am delighted to see so many people from across the world coming to NEWI and Wales to attend this conference and benefit from the sharing of research findings and ideas.”
The delegates will also have a chance to tour the region, take a boat trip on the River Dee and enjoy a mediaeval Welsh banquet at Ruthin Castle.
