New season at the NEWI William Aston Hall

21 September 2006

The NEWI William Aston Hall has launched its Autumn programme of events and according to Haydn Hughes, Conference and Events Co-ordinator this season offers something for everyone.  Haydn said, “It may sound like a cliché but I honestly believe that this is one of the most varied programmes we’ve ever had. We’ve got everything form local talent in the form of Froncysyllte Male Voice choir and local band Crosbi to international talent from the Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers.  Comedy, ballet, classical music, gospel, clairvoyance and all sorts of other things.  There really is something to suit all tastes!”

The season begins with a night of stand-up comedy on Wednesday 27th September with The Comedy Club’s Funny Business Tour featuring three of the UK’s best young up and coming stand-up comedians.

The following evening there is a complete change of direction with “Forever in Blue Jeans” a spectacular high energy show with a fabulous cast and a hit song every few minutes. It’s a perfect blend of song, dance and fun and the audience is encouraged to get up and jive to the music.

Friday 6th October sees a 1940s style Prom in aid of Nightingale House Hospice, while the following day the Vienna festival Ballet returns with two performances of Tchaikovshy’s Sleeping Beauty. The New York Gospel Chorus are the next visitors to the Hall (11th October) with their powerful music communicating the message of God.

The Wrexham Football Club Supporters Club bring the seventies glam-rocker Sweet to the hall on Saturday 14th October with support from local band Crosbi.

The Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers (19th October) are also back by popular demand with their special brand of high quality drumming in a concert which incorporates traditional taiko drumming pieces and builds to a crescendo of high energy, earth-shaking rhythms.

The following evening one of the world’s leading worship songwriters and one of the finest voices in Christian music unite in concert. Stuart Townend and Lou Fellingham present their “Monument to Mercy and Treasure” tour performance on 20th October.

The Froncysyllte Male Voice choir hold their annual concert at the Hall on the 21st October and this year they are joined by the Leyland band.

Another show returning again this year by popular acclaim is Mad About Musicals(25th October). This show proved very popular last year with songs from all major West-End shows. This show attracted a large audience and early booking is highly recommended.

The Riding Lights touring theatre stop off at the Hall on 27th October to perform “Pipe Dreams” providing funny, moving and provocative entertainment with an ecological focus.

The BBC National Orchestra of Wales provide a Sunday afternoon concert on 5th November with pieces by Berlioz, Saint-Saens, Milhaud and Schumann.

Prepare for an evening of mayhem and madness on 15th November when Freddie Starr comes to town. One of Britain’s best loved comedians, Freddie will be bringing his own brand of zany comedy and music to Wrexham for what is sure to be an unforgettable evening.

Rhys Meirion and brilliant local pianist Llyr Williams join the Rhos Male Voice Choir on Saturday 18th November for their annual concert, while on 2nd December the Wrexham Symphony Orchestra perform pieces by Grieg, Lars-Erik Larsson and Sibelius, and we finish the year (seat 9th December) with something new for the NEWI William Aston Hall when we have a spectacular evening of clairvoyance with the remarkable medium – Tony Stockwell. Tony will be providing proof from beyond, delivered with humour and compassion.

So, as we say, “something for everyone”, and after Christmas it all starts again with our Pantomime Treasure Island with performances on the evenings of 3rd, 4th and 5th January.

Tickets and brochures containing further information for shows are available from the Box Office at the Tourist Information Centre in Lambpit Street Wrexham (Tel 01978 292015).
