NEWI offers support to Bangor students

14 September 2006

NEWI is supporting students from the University of Wales, Bangor who are angry over plans to cut dramatically the opening hours of their library.  Staff at NEWI are keen to point out that the nursing students, who are based at Bangor’s Archimedes Centre on Wrexham Technology Park will continue to have access to the extensive library at NEWI and will continue to benefit from its longer opening hours.  Under a longstanding agreement between the two University of Wales institutions all Bangor students, wherever they are based, are able to use the reference and lending facilities at NEWI’s library to support their studies.

Professor Kate Sullivan, Assistant Principal at NEWI said, “NEWI offers an extensive range of nursing and health degrees and the library at NEWI, which is open on a Saturday and until 9pm most evenings, houses a vast array of relevant literature for NEWI’s own nursing and health students.  We understand the frustration of the Bangor students and hope that the access they have to our library will help them to continue their studies and will minimise any inconvenience to them.”

NEWI’s library also has the advantage of working as part of a network with Wrexham’s other libraries through the Gateway to Libraries in Wrexham (GaLW) partnership.  Paul Jeorrett, User Services Manager at NEWI said, “Students can use our library to access books and take advantage of the longer opening hours.”
