Ahoy my hearties it’s Treasure Island
19 December 2006
The NEWI William Aston Hall will be offering a fun packed show for all the family in the form of its annual pantomime. This year’s story is Treasure Island and promises to be a pantomime full of fun and adventure; ideal for entertaining the kids before they go back to school.
The story is based on the book by Robert Louis Stevenson who originally wrote the tale for his stepson in 1881. Treasure Island remains one of literature’s best loved adventure stories and one that we all have fond memories of as a child. What better than tales of pirates, treasure maps and exciting voyages.
Treasure Island tells of the adventures of Jim Hawkins and his search for the buried treasure of the notorious pirate Captain Flint after finding a secret map. Together with the local squire and doctor they gather a crew which includes cook Long John Silver and set sail for Treasure Island. Along the way Jim encounters several troublesome characters who are determined to prevent him finding the treasure leading to many adventures and pirate fights. Eventually they reach the treasure chest only to find that the treasure is missing! The treasure has been moved earlier and hidden in a secret cave which they find and rescue before setting sail back home. The next day they discover that Long John Silver along with some of the treasure is missing never to be seen again. The pantomime is adaptation of the Treasure Island story with the characters of Jenny Jimlad; Smelly Pete; Dame Purity; Long John; Squire and Ben Gunn.
The pantomime is on between Wednesday 3rd January through to Friday 5th January with performances at 7pm each evening. Tickets are priced at £5 for Adults and £3 for concessions, from Techniquest@NEWI or telephone 01978 293400
