Gemma's Designs on a Successful Career
29 October 2010 A YOUNG jewellery designer has set up her own business using skills she developed at university. Gemma Bentley, 25, is about to begin trading at Oswestry Market after securing a stall to display her products. Talented Gemma is also celebrating graduating with a BA (Hons) in Applied Art from Glyndŵr University. She said the support she received on the course, together with its strong focus on developing skills for industry, were vital. Gemma, from Oswestry, added: “My tutor was absolutely fantastic and really supportive. We were encouraged to break the mould with what we were doing and to use technology to make things.” The young entrepreneur started selling her work during her second year at university, and her jewellery is being sold at outlets in London and Liverpool. She said: “In the second year we did a professional practice module which was very clearly focused on using our skills for business. As I was quite business-minded anyway it was ideal.” As well as the Oswestry venture, Gemma is looking forward to seeing her work exhibited at the Oriel Wrecsam gallery in January. |
